POKOTABI / Edomae Sushi Haru
江戸前寿司春
Tucked into Minamioi, Shinagawa Ward, Edomae Sushi Haru serves authentic Edomae sushi without the fuss, from lunchtime seafood bowls and carefully prepped nigiri to seasonal sashimi and drinking snacks.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Hanging its noren in a quiet residential pocket of Minamioi, just a short walk from Omori Station, Edomae Sushi Haru offers honest, craftsman-driven sushi in a comfortable, down-to-earth setting. At lunchtime, the counter draws a steady crowd for its vibrant kaisen-don—a rice bowl piled with thick cuts of tuna, crisp-textured red clam, naturally sweet prawns, and kelp-cured flounder, among other treasures. Affordable nigiri sets are also on hand, paired with hearty bowls of soup; shaped with nicely balanced, compact sushi rice, each piece delivers the classic character of traditional Edomae sushi.
One of the great pleasures here is chatting across the counter with the chef to hear what is best on the day. Alongside staples like intensely sweet sea urchin and fragrant tekka maki (tuna rolls), the board features seasonal regional catches such as kibinago (silver-stripe round herring). Come evening, it is just as natural to settle in with a cold beer or sake, working through fresh sashimi and thoughtful side dishes before rounding off the night with a few favorite pieces of nigiri.
With its clean, calm interior, the shop is easy to slip into on your own, while also accepting advance reservations. Guided by seasonal fish and warm hospitality, it remains a genuine neighborhood treasure where diners can take their time enjoying the sea's bounty.
